Abay Karpykov

Abay Sadvokasovich Karpykov (Kazakh: Абай Садвокасович Карпыков; born February 6, 1955, Taldy-Kurgan) is a Soviet, Kazakh and Russian film director, screenwriter and producer. He graduated from the Moscow Historical and Archival Institute and the Directing Faculty of the All-Union State Institute of Cinematography (workshop of Sergei Solovyov). Specialty — director and producer. He produced the first Kazakh "soap operas" — "Crossroads" and "Locust". Of the full-length films, one of the first films was the film "The One who is more Tender" (1996), later he made the film "Farah" (1998). Both films starred the colorful actor Farhat Abdraimov — winner of two Russian film festivals in 1999 for these films.
