Alberto, an 88-year-old painter, lives in a nursing home. He receives a visit from an old friend who suggests that he paint a painting on the abolition of the death penalty, a theme they have shared since their youth struggles. He refuses but finally accepts the proposal, entering a trance in which his life, art, death, and dreams are mixed.
