The cross and the circle, the eagle and the snake, the tree and the stone, Athens and Jerusalem, Babylon and Sodom, male and female - in these archetypal categories the author examines the fate of the Russian capital, its birth and death. The music used is by Anton von Webern, Sofia Gubaidulina, Karl Heinz Stockhausen, Toru Takemitsu, Orthodox church and Russian folk music.
